The amendment was offered by Sen. David Pearce (R- Warrensburg) and was, according to Joplin Globe reports, introduced at the behest of the Missouri Southern administration.
It is clear that this language was introduced at the last minutes of the session and the semester to sneak it in. The original bill had nothing to do with the institutional missions, but the amendment was added simply to circumvent any opposition to Speck’s wishes.
