bruce-w-speck copySenate Bill 67 is not about removing Missouri Southern’s international mission.

It is a more comprehensive higher education bill. The Missouri Southern provision was introduced as an amendment. It was attached to the larger measure on April 10.

The Globe told you that. But it didn’t give you the language for comparison. That is provided here.

The amendment was offered by Sen. David Pearce (R- Warrensburg) and was, according to Joplin Globe reports, introduced at the behest of the Missouri Southern administration.

It is clear that this language was introduced at the last minutes of the session and the semester to sneak it in. The original bill had nothing to do with the institutional missions, but the amendment was added simply to circumvent any opposition to Speck’s wishes.
